Maz: philosopher´s answer:

Teaching

Where do you get
the Atonement is already complete? You are confusing the apparent
separation from God, which didn’t happen, couldn’t happen, and is not
now happening in Eternity with the Course based means for awakening from
the dream of death/separation.

In short the Atonement is both
a plan and a principle. And also a process.

As a plan –the author tells us the Atonement had to be devised and
integrated into the fabric of linear space/time, such that Atonement plan
could only be helpful and never be misused, or turned against itself.
Though it can certainly NOT be used.

This plan was necessary
because of what I call the “God problem,” or the misuse of
God-given creative ability such that the Son of God can create a thought
prison with his mind from which he can never escape. This is what is meant
by the “split mind.” This is what is meant by
“dreaming.” The Son of God creates a world, incarnates or
projects himself into the world as a creature, then forgets he did so.

In and of itself –there is no way out, because there are so
many levels of redundancy of the initial error, and in the process, we
have made ourselves so dumb, irrational and uncertain, ie separated
from knowledge, that by our own effort we cannot un-scramble the
egg.

As such, the apparent separation, is an effective
separation, but not an actual separation from Source, ie God the Father.
Effective in the sense, that this misuse of creative powers have
effectively blocked all natural communication channels with Source,
brothers, and our own true creations. “Blocked communication,”
not “distance,” is the Course definition of
separation.

In the above sense, the creation of the
Holy Spirit by the Father as an answer to the separation or blocked
communication channels makes sense. The Holy Spirit is the always open
communication channel between you and God, and you and your
unsplit mind still in knowledge.

By establishing a permanent
communication channel through the HS, the separation is rendered void, or
not absolute, but clearly you can still refuse to use this
communication channel, and choose to maintain the apparent separation, or
in other words, continue dreaming.

As such, the principle
of Atonement addresses the continued desire of the mind to dream.

The principle of Atonement is: errors are addressed, healed, and
corrected at the mental level. What this means is that in the
human condition, in the perceptual world, all apparent problems and
defects, without exception, are problems of erroneous thinking, and are
correct and healed by right thinking.

As such, there is no
“spiritual problems,” or “physical problems,” no
“health problems,” or “mental health problems,” which
somehow have to be addressed specifically at “different levels.”
Instead, all problems are healed at the mental level by healing or
correcting erroneous thinking based on fear, lack, and a thought system of
sin, guilt, punishment, attack and death. The correction/healing of
erroneous thought at the mental level (not correction of perception,) is
the Atonement principle. By accepting corrected thought or “right
minded” thinking we awaken from the dream and lose the desire to
maintain “The Dream.” And clearly by correcting thinking we
begin to open dormant communication channels between Source, Holy Spirit
and our brothers.

As such, “accepting the Atonement”
as our only responsibility means accepting the responsibility of
correcting our own errors of thinking. That’s our part in the Atonement,
and to the extent that we continue to hold erroneous thoughts, the
Atonement as a plan is far from complete.

Nevertheless, and
paradoxically, correcting our erroneous thoughts by our own efforts and
own methods is an impossible task. The mind in the total grip of errors
cannot correct itself, without agency and reference outside its erroneous
thought system. That’s where the Holy Spirit and miracles come in –by
willingness we can allow our erroneous thoughts to be corrected for us,
but not by our own efforts. The correction of fear thought at the causal
level by the miracle with the agency of the Holy Spirit results in
incrementally healed thinking and an incrementally healed or
“miraculous” perception. That’s why the Course is called “A
Course in Miracles,” not “A Course in Forgiveness.”

Forgiveness, or the realization the world is a dream and never
happened and there is nothing to forgive, and as such, what we experience
in the dream, we are only doing to ourselves by our own hidden desires, is
the result or consequence of healed thinking, not the “means” to
heal erroneous thought by our own efforts.

Instead the means
is the Holy Spirit and miracles in the “undoing,” or Atonement
process.” This process in described in detail in the first
five chapters of the blue book and especially in chapters 4 and 5. This
undoing process is simple, works, works all the time and if done as
explained cannot NOT work. This undoing process is the essential Course in
Miracles. Once learned, understood and experienced, everything else in
ACIM is commentary designed to expedite this essential
process.´

But It’s Not Real, Right?

Teaching

You cannot know that your ego and the world are unreal until you experience Reality. A direct Revelation of God, the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Holy instant, and the Holy relationship are the experiences that lead you to this awareness. You must experience your Real Self, and you must experience Oneness, to know that what you have been experiencing is not true.

Many students reach a point where they try to accept the intellectual idea that the world is not real without having experienced Reality. They end up deeply conflicted, because they still value the world. Sometimes, they use this idea as a form of denial so as not to deal with painful issues in their life. They will say things like, “I shouldn’t feel this grief/depression/anger, because it’s over something that isn’t real, right?” or “I shouldn’t want a special relationship/money/material objects/recognition, because they aren’t real, right?” But you wouldn’t feel these emotions or desires, except that they are for things that have value for you – which means that they are very real to you. No one values what they know is not real, and you cannot force yourself to accept something is unreal until you have experienced it as unreal.

You are not asked to give up your values, but to invite the Holy Spirit in to “purify” your values. They will not be taken from you, but, rather, used by the Holy Spirit to teach you what parts of them have real value, and what parts do not. When you learn what does not have value, it will naturally fall away from you. You cannot force this.

“You have regarded the separation as a means for breaking your communication with your Father. The Holy Spirit reinterprets it as a means of re-establishing what was not broken, but has been made obscure. All things you made have use to Him, for His most holy purpose. He knows you are not separate from God, but He perceives much in your mind that lets you think you are. All this and nothing else would He separate from you.” (T-14.VI.5)

A Course in Miracles is meant to be used in the course of an ordinary life. You are not asked to live a life of deprivation and denial. You are not asked to hide away from the world, but to live right in the middle of it with an awakening mind. You are not asked to be a hypocrite, pretending to not value what you do value. You are asked to invite the Holy Spirit to help you sort out what has real value, and what does not. This is not something that you can do without the Voice for Truth guiding you. If you decide for yourself what is real and what isn’t, what has value and what doesn’t, you are doing the Holy Spirit’s job.

Reincarnation

Teaching

In the ultimate sense, reincarnation is impossible. There is no past or future, and the idea of birth into a body has no meaning either once or many times. Reincarnation cannot, then, be true in any real sense. Our only question should be, “Is the concept helpful?” And that depends, of course, on what it is used for. If it is used to strengthen the recognition of the eternal nature of life, it is helpful indeed. Is any other question about it really useful in lighting up the way? Like many other beliefs, it can be bitterly misused. At least, such misuse offers preoccupation and perhaps pride in the past. At worst, it induces inertia in the present. In between, many kinds of folly are possible.” (M-24.1)

I always find it funny to read what A Course in Miracles has to say about reincarnation (Manual for Teachers, #24). It says that reincarnation is not real, yet it says you don’t have to give up your belief in it. It says that the only value in the belief in reincarnation is that it reinforces the idea that life is Eternal. Yet, because you can only accept salvation now, the past, whether in this “lifetime” or in another “past life,” is irrelevant. The Holy Spirit always takes what we already believe and purifies it. It keeps what is in line with Truth, and disregards the rest. With reincarnation, then, it seems that there is only this one aspect of it that the Holy Spirit would have you keep – that it strengthens your acceptance of Eternal Life.

While the Course says that you do not have to give up a belief in reincarnation, as someone who feels that she is supposed to specifically teach other teacher’s of God, I have some concerns with it. No student who believes in it has ever come to me believing in it only because it teaches them that life is Eternal. In fact, most find something in the idea that keeps them from having to accept God now. Why should they deal with their feelings of unworthiness, guilt, and fear of God when they can do it in another life time? The ego gets great comfort from the idea of reincarnation. It is a belief that individuality is real, and that it just switches egos over time. It reinforces the idea that time itself is real. It validates the idea of many minds, spirits, “lives” over one Mind, one Spirit, one Life – one God.

Some students fear that they have to be enlightened to get into Heaven, and they don’t think that they can reach enlightenment in one lifetime. The belief in reincarnation helps them deal with their sense of failure for not being enlightened. This judgment of failure, though, is from the ego. You cannot fail, for you are Part of God, and it is your Holy Spirit that works through you. Your ego is irrelevant.

Heaven is an awareness of Oneness. Once you experience It, you recognize that you are already there. You remain in the world as a teacher of God to reach others who have not yet welcomed Oneness. The experience of Oneness motivates you to shed your ego and walk towards enlightenment, leading others to God as you do so. Heaven is right here. (For more on this, revisit my blog of December 2, 2006).

I have had “past life” experiences myself. But they were always metaphors for what I was going through at the time, and I have come to look at them as such. It is possible, I suppose, to think that since we are all One Mind, that rather than tapping into a life we individually have experienced, we are tapping into “other lives” in the collective dream when we have these past-life experiences. But in any case they are past – only now can you accept God.

“The emphasis of this course always remains the same;-it is at this moment that complete salvation is offered you, and it is at this moment that you can accept it. This is still your one responsibility. Atonement might be equated with total escape from the past and total lack of interest in the future. Heaven is here. There is nowhere else. Heaven is now. There is no other time. No teaching that does not lead to this is of concern to God’s teachers. All beliefs will point to this if properly interpreted. In this sense, it can be said that their truth lies in their usefulness. All beliefs that lead to progress should be honored. This is the sole criterion this course requires. No more than this is necessary.“(M-24.6)

Jesus teaches…

Teaching

4. Time is a trick, a sleight of hand, a vast illusion in which figures come and go as if by magic. 2 Yet there is a plan behind appearances that does not change. 3 The script is written. 4 When experience will come to end your doubting has been set. 5 For we but see the journey from the point at which it ended, looking back on it, imagining we make it once again; reviewing mentally what has gone by. (FIP, W-158.4) (URTEXT, W158 L4)

“Time is a trick, a sleight of hand, a vast illusion in which figures come and go as if by magic.”

What would happen to your beliefs about the “physical” world if you learned that what seems to have happened one second ago was no more that a thought in your mind intended to keep you believing that the world is real?

ACIM teaches that ego made the entire universe…from astrophysics to quantum physics.

Question: Do you believe that something really happened one second ago? As a “body” am I really smart enough to understand anything?

Now, be still and listen to the truth. You will be told all you need to know.

Love you,

Is Attack Possible?

Teaching

Hi Friends,

Over the last two Sunday’s I have taught a message that Holy Spirit gave me in 2006. Receiving this message was a turning point for me. It was given to me during a time when there seemed to be a lot of conflict in the ACIM community. It seemed that some teachers were attacking others, accusing them of being fake or of being liars. Nearly everyone was aware of this controversary at the time.

As I read many email posts about this situation, I kept seeing the world “attack” written in posts, since most people seemed to perceive one teacher as attacking another. Each time I read “attack” a Voice in me said, “No.” Finally, after a couple of days of hearing this ‘no’ in the back of my mind, I decided to ask Holy Spirit if attack is possible. I had an intuition from the ‘no’ that attack isn’t possible, but I didn’t understand that intuition. The answer given was amazing … at least to me.

If you would like to hear these teachings, please go to the link below and play “Is attack possible?, part 1″ and “part 2″. This teaching may be helpful if you perceive attack in any form. If you feel that you have attacked someone, if you feel you have been attacked or if you perceive attack going on between others. Here is the link: http://reginadawnakers.com/?page_id=695

Forward from Bishop Spong

Teaching
John Gamlin from Old Hall, East Bergholt, Colchester, UK, writes:If we are now beyond theism then I suggest we are also beyond the word “God” — beyond it because:

  1. of the baggage it carries.
  2. to continue to use it is to be constantly misunderstood.
  3. we will continue to drift back into the old language and old images.

So what new name?

  • Life?
  • Energy?
  • Love?

None will do, but we need to look somewhere for a new way to describe the bearer of eternity.Dear John,

Thank you for your perceptive question, which has forced me to think about this issue in a new way to answer it — or at least to keep the conversation going. I need to make some distinctions or clarifications.

  1. There is a difference between the experience of God and the explanation of the experience. Religion tends to assume they are the same. Theism is a human explanation of the experience of God; it is not God. The experience can be real or delusional. The explanation will never be eternal. No explanation ever is.
  2. Personhood is the deepest experience of our lives as human beings and we cannot escape its boundaries. We describe everything in terms of that reality. That is why we think of God after the analogy of a person. We can also never get into the being of God, or of a fellow mammal, a reptile, a fish or an insect. We define each out of the reference of our own personhood. The same is true for every other creature. Xenophanes said it in the third century before the Common Era, “If horses had Gods, they would look like horses.”
  3. The concept of God has been evolving as long as there have been human beings. In animism, which appears to have been the earliest human religion, God was defined as multiple spirits in a spirit-filled world. These spirits caused everything to do the things that we human beings observed happening. The sun moved, the moon turned, the flowers bloomed and the trees bore fruit. Animism sought to help us relate to and win the favor of these animating spirits. When we human beings moved into agricultural communities, God was defined in terms of the processes of fertility. When we grew into tribes on our way toward nation states, God became a tribal deity. In the Gods of Olympus, animism and tribal deities were merged into a hierarchy of Gods ruled by the head (chief) of the Gods (Jupiter, Zeus) but with animistic functions still being defined by spirits (Neptune and Cupid, for example). Finally, we moved into a concept of God’s oneness and God began to grow vaguer and more mysterious.
  4. During our history, definitions of God have been born, changed and died and that is the process that is going on today. Our knowledge is expanding and our definition of God will expand with it. The God who was thought to ride across the sky as the sun, changed as our knowledge of the sun grew.

So what do we do? Allow the name to evolve. In the Hebrew Scriptures, God is identified with wind and breath, concepts that eventually evolved into the word Spirit. God was identified with love, as the expander of life, and evolved into the understanding of the Christ figure as “love incarnate.” God is also identified with the idea of “rock” and evolved into the Ground of Being that we identify with the old patriarchal word Father.I do not believe that in the last analysis any human being can actually define or redefine God, whether we call God the Holy, the Sense of Transcendence or anything else, but I do believe we can experience this presence and I do believe it is real. When we experience this presence I know of no other way to describe it except as “God.” History teaches us that the word God is never static; it is always in flux and ever changing. I suggest that we not be frightened and allow that process to continue.

I will continue to think about it because of you. So I thank you for your question.

– John Shelby Spong

Simple Tools of Great Value

Teaching

1. Be kind of everything and everyone, including oneself, all the time with no exception.

2. Revere all of life in all its expressions, no matter what, even if one does not understand it.

3. Presume no actual reliable knowledge of anything at all. Ask God to reveal its meaning.

4. Intend to see the hidden beauty of all that exists—it then reveals itself.

5. Forgive everything that is witnessed and experienced, no matter what. Remember Christ, Buddha and Krishna all said that all error is due to ignorance. Socrates said all men can choose only what they believe to be the good.

6. Approach all of life with humility and be willing to surrender all positionalities and mental/emotional arguments or gains.

7. Be willing to forego all perceptions of gain, desire or profit and thereby be willing to be of selfless service to life in all of its expressions.

8. Make one’s life a living prayer by intention, alignment, humility, and surrender. True spiritual reality is actually a way of being in the world.

9. By verification, confirm the levels of consciousness and spiritual truth of all teachers, teachings, spiritual groups, and literature with which one intends to be aligned or a student.

10. Accept that by spiritual declaration, commitment and surrender, Knowingness arises that provides, support, information, and all that is needed for the entire journey.

The Quantum Activist : Amit Goswam

Teaching

Be prepared to take a discontinuous leap. There is a revolution going on in science. A genuine paradigm shift. While mainstream science remains materialist, a substantial number of scientists are supporting and developing a paradigm based on the primacy of consciousness. Amit Goswami, a pioneer of this revolutionary new perspective within science, shares with us his vision of the unlimited potential of consciousness as the ground of all being, and how this revelation can actually help us to live better.

Recognized as one of the worlds most brilliant minds, Amit has recently appeared in the movies “What the Bleep Do We Know?”,”The Dalai Lama Renaissance” and authored over a dozen books from textbooks on quantum mechanics to consciousness and the New Science. We trace Goswami from his early years in India… away from the religious teachings of his childhood to seek his path in nuclear physics; and how he has come full circle through quantum insight back to the very religious axioms offered as a youth.

With daring style, the Quantum Activist presents the wisdom and humor of one of our worlds truly influential thinkers… and tells of Amit’s journey, his message, and his insight on what this means to you.

God is all there is

Teaching

“The miracle perceives everything as it is. If nothing but the truth exists (and this is really a redundant statement because what is not true cannot exist) right-minded seeing cannot see anything but perfection. We have said many times that only what God creates, or what man creates with the same will, has any real existence. This, then, is all the innocent can see.”
From A Course In Miracles, Ch 3, Sec IV Miracles as Accurate Perception par 2
